Background of the Study
Business intelligence (BI) systems are critical tools used by organizations to analyze data and derive actionable insights that drive decision-making processes. In telecom companies, BI systems help monitor corporate performance, optimize operations, and improve customer service. These systems aggregate and analyze data from various sources, including sales, customer interactions, and network operations, enabling companies to improve efficiency and stay competitive.
Telecom companies in Nigeria, particularly in Jigawa State, face fierce competition and increasing consumer demands for better services. According to Olayinka and Mohammed (2024), BI systems allow telecom companies to track performance metrics such as revenue, market share, and customer satisfaction, leading to informed decisions and improved corporate strategies. However, the adoption and implementation of BI systems in Jigawa State’s telecom industry remain slow due to high costs, lack of skilled personnel, and infrastructure limitations.
This study critically analyzes the role of BI systems in corporate performance monitoring within telecom companies in Jigawa State, assessing their impact and identifying challenges hindering their effective use.
Statement of the Problem
Telecom companies in Jigawa State face challenges in effectively monitoring and optimizing corporate performance due to limited adoption of BI systems. Without advanced analytics, companies struggle to track performance indicators in real-time and make data-driven decisions that could enhance competitiveness. The slow pace of BI adoption is partly due to high implementation costs, lack of technical expertise, and inadequate IT infrastructure.
Adedayo and Sule (2023) argue that BI systems offer telecom companies a strategic advantage, but the slow integration into corporate operations in Jigawa limits the potential for performance improvement. This study aims to analyze the critical factors influencing BI system adoption and its impact on corporate performance monitoring in Jigawa State’s telecom industry.
Objectives of the Study
To assess the adoption of business intelligence systems in telecom companies in Jigawa State.
To evaluate the impact of business intelligence systems on corporate performance monitoring in the telecom industry.
To identify the challenges faced by telecom companies in implementing business intelligence systems.
Research Questions
To what extent are business intelligence systems adopted by telecom companies in Jigawa State?
How do business intelligence systems impact corporate performance monitoring in the telecom industry?
What challenges do telecom companies face in implementing business intelligence systems?
Research Hypotheses
Business intelligence systems are not significantly adopted by telecom companies in Jigawa State.
Business intelligence systems do not significantly impact corporate performance monitoring in telecom companies.
Challenges significantly hinder the adoption and implementation of business intelligence systems in telecom companies.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on telecom companies in Jigawa State, Nigeria, and their use of business intelligence systems for corporate performance monitoring. Limitations include the varying levels of BI system integration within telecom companies and potential biases in reporting from the companies involved.
